If you have been in Patchogue recently, we are sure you have noticed the purple ribbons located around town. The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce has partnered with local businesses and elected officials to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease. Patchogue has “gone purple” from June 16th through the 30th to support local families affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
Approximately 30 local businesses are participating by decorating their storefronts and stores with purple ribbons which were donated by the Village Walk. Businesses will be offering specials on purple items in their stores and raising funds with point of sale campaigns to support The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce Walk team. The walk will be held on Saturday, September 28th in Yaphank and all proceeds fund efforts to help end Alzheimer’s and other dementia’s.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, there are 5.8 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, including 400,000 in New York State. By 2050 that number is projected to reach as many as 14 million. Patchogue Chamber of Commerce states that “simply by having a brain, every person is at risk for developing Alzheimer’s, a fatal disease that cannot be prevented, treated or even slowed. Patchogue knows it’s important to take action now to help end this epidemic.”
“We applaud the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Patchogue for acknowledging June 2019 as Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month,” said Douglas Davidson, executive director for the Alzheimer’s Association Long Island Chapter. “Our ongoing efforts to support, educate and advocate for Long Islanders affected by Alzheimer’s disease in coordination with the County and State Departments of Health, Governor Cuomo and the New York State legislature are key to mitigating the Alzheimer’s public health crisis in New York.”
On Monday June 24th, The Float Place in Patchogue will be hosting a Sunset Yoga and Meditation at Mascot Dock in Patchogue. Below is the event flyer which contains event schedule and other details.
